Fandom: Gargoyles
Character History:
Brentwood was born of Lexington's DNA by Dr. Sevarius, who was commissioned by Thailog and Demona. He was the third to be obtained with Lex having been bitten by the robotic mosquito used to collect DNA to be used on the night of July 16th, 1996. On the night of August 18th, about five weeks later, the clones had developed enough for Thailog to begin their subliminal education program, which included only very basic speech and the command "Obey Thailog" to keep them primitive, ignorant, and obedient. Two months later on October 12th is when they were all fully matured and released from their capsules.
Thailog left them in an abandoned funhouse while he went to get Demona and lead Goliath back for an ambush. It was when Thailog and Demona arrived that the clones received their names, with the exception of Delilah who wasn't present at the moment and already named.
When the Manhattan clan arrived the clones were sent to ambush their originals and Brentwood, having been aged up to peak physical condition, easily overpowered and defeated Lexington. The gargoyles were restrained so that they could be disposed of and things seemed to be going well until, Thailog attempted to destroy Angela first. This provoked Demona to stop him, which led to the reveal of Delilah as her replacement and Demona's fight against Thailog after freeing the gargoyles.
The clones were quickly abandoned to deal with their originals alone because Thailog wanted the gargoyles destroyed and, while they couldn't be defeated one-on-one, the simplicity of their programming meant that when the Manhattan clan cooperated to outsmart them the clones stood no chance and were beaten and restrained. With the apparent death of Thailog, they were left with nowhere to go and no idea what to do. The Manhattan Clan weren't too eager to take them in, so they were adopted by Talon and became part of the Labyrinth Clan where they were to learn proper speech and how to think for themselves.
The clones lived peacefully in the underground labyrinth until Halloween, safe from the dangers such as the Quarrymen and with no interaction with their originals until Goliath and Brooklyn came to see Delilah on that night. But then Thailog returned soon after to reclaim them and they obeyed his orders without hesitation. When Maggie the Cat called them out on their addressing Thailog their master and claimed they had the free will to decide what they wanted, Brentwood was the first to obviously begin thinking on this concept. He continued to follow Thailog, but continued to muse over the idea of free will and the ability to choose the more that it was mentioned.
Thailog took the clones to Xanatos' castle to retrieve Delilah, who was there on a date with Goliath. The confrontation led to Goliath being stabbed and soon to a fight with the entire clan. Brentwood didn't participate in the battle even when Thailog ordered the clones to protect him. He sat to the side watching and listening to everyone as the battle raged, continuing to think.
Delilah's arrival ended the battle and she was to decide where she wanted to be and who to listen to. When she expressed the desire to stay in the Labyrinth where she truly felt free, because both Thailog and Goliath were only using herm she was joined by Malibu, Hollywood, and Burbank when she asked them what they wanted. Brentwood rejected the idea, drawn to stay with Thailog because of his intelligence...much to Lexington's horror. Lex tried to stop him, but Goliath allowed Brentwood to leave with Thailog and they returned to his corporation where he learned that part of Thailog's plan in attacking that night had been to get more genetic material for Sevarius to make more clones. Brentwood's decision to stay with him was just a pleasant bonus.
Soon after, on that same night, a human woman appeared and Brentwood was sent away with Sevarius for some reason. After this, Brentwood continued to stay with Thailog, helping with whatever tasks he was needed for.
Character Personality:
Brentwood is simple and fairly primitive, and doesn't seem to really comprehend much of the world around him yet because Thailog programmed him to be basic but effective. This shows largely in his often clueless expression and his inability to use proper speech even though he appears to be able to understand most proper speech with little to no difficultly...but he is not stupid, merely ignorant, and is apparently actually a bit of a deep thinker. Since learning about free will he seems to have decided that he is perfectly capable of making his own decisions and doesn't really seem to like having someone push their opinions on him once he's made his choice.
He's been shown not to be violent for the sake of violence as he was apparently able to live happily in the Labyrinth with no trouble, which also indicates that differences in species probably mean very little to him. He seems to actually get along quite well with whoever he's staying with as he also didn't seem to have any disputes with the other clones and they worked well together when needed. He is a natural warrior like most gargoyles, though he probably runs mostly on instinct in a fight without much forethought to his strategy at his current stage.
Despite his simple nature, Brentwood favors intelligence over both clan and morality...though he doesn't really have the experience to fully understand the latter just yet. He's already proven that he is willing to relinquish the ability to choose to someone of above average intelligence, at least in part, regardless of how that person views him. He's also proven that he is no longer blindly obedient to Thailog despite his programming, but in a situation where he feels that he could gain something from working under someone with a lot of smarts and cunning he would likely do so without much hesitation.
It's fairly likely that he has little to no sense of modesty both because it's something learned over time that Thailog would have little reason to teach, and because modesty isn't a gargoyle thing normally.
Gargoyles seem to have an instinctive tendency to protect both territory and those associated with it, so he likely has the same instinct. He doesn't seem to be particularly materialistic, as most gargoyles really aren't, but that could also be because he hasn't really gotten anything that he feels a need to keep yet. He's not at all educated on gargoyle customs and may never be interested in learning about them if he's not part of a proper clan.
Interestingly, because of his obviously simple nature, and his often clueless expression, it could be easily possible for others to either overestimate or underestimate him. He's capable of learning and thinking things over, and can recognize when others are upset with something he's involved in, but he is not and doesn't come across as someone who has full understanding of everyday things and this could make it hard to determine his intentions.
Powers and Abilities:
Despite his small size, he's in peak physical condition and has strength that exceeds his original's and is noticeably above that of a human. He's able to claw steel and stone, and grip with enough force to climb surfaces made of either. He's also able to bend or tear steel, lift heavy objects, and crush metal or stone like any other gargoyle. These feats just sometimes require a bit more exertion from him than a larger gargoyle like Thailog or Hollywood.
Like all gargoyles he can't fly, but can glide on air currents and is good at maneuvering in midair. His night vision allows him to see in almost no light at all. When angered, his eyes start to glow red unconsciously, whereas normal males' eyes glow white. His vocal range comes from the fact that he has two sets of vocal chords, one for human speech and the other for more animal sounds like growls and roars. He can take more damage than a human can, recover faster from unconsciousness, and usually has better endurance. He is very resistant to heat and cold, enough that he can deal with any type of weather with little trouble, but is not by any means immune to extreme conditions.
During the day his body completely turns to a stone-like substance that's no heavier than his flesh state. This is how gargoyles sleep and, while in this state, he can heal almost any kind of damage from received injuries without leaving scars, or illnesses and drugs/poisons. He also absorbs energy, most likely thermal, in this state and he can still dream. He is completely vulnerable though, and is entirely unaware of anything that happens around him. Damage done is this state that goes deeper than the layer he sheds at night would become permanent, but not necessarily kill him if not of a fatal nature. Should he be smashed, he would simply remain stone and die. Lost limbs aren't something he can regenerate, and if he died before sunrise he wouldn't turn to stone at all.
When waking, his body thaws from the inside outward, resulting in only a thin layer of "stone" skin being shed every night. This is a natural occurrence for gargoyles and in no magic. It's also because of their biological clock rather than the sun, so things that disrupt their clock would result in him possibly being awake after sunrise or asleep after sunset. Additionally, this is the only time that gargoyles sleep.
Lastly is the modesty spell. All gargoyles are subject to it. It turns anything that they have on them at time of sleep to stone provided they consider it part of them. Apparently the spell includes clones.

[Brentwood's hand draws away from the screen a moment before he leans over to peer at it himself, the metal-tipped claws not even scratching the screen. He has his usual clueless near-frowning expression, but he looks a bit more curious tonight. Over his barbed shoulder, one of Big's Ben's faces can be see, the minute hand almost pointing at his head.]
Someone tell Brentwood how get ready for storms? Not know what happens. Brenwood go wait for end?
Third Person:
Second night in a different home. Brentwood perched on the roof overlooking the area and thought about things. His legs dangled over the edge and his hands and wing appendages rested on it comfortably, as did his tail.
It was quiet, actually peaceful sort of, in this strange new place. No noisy traffic and roaring subways, or cramped living quarters and noisy people everywhere he turned. And it wasn't the lavish living that Thailog enjoyed. There was also no one to look at him like he was lesser or bad just because he was a clone. No one knew him here. Which wasn't bad. It was just...new. Brentwood wasn't exactly sure how to deal with it yet. He would have to think on it.
It wasn't as though he hadn't spoken to anyone either. It was more that there were things to learn that he hadn't had to deal with at all. This being Wakened thing, the Bending, and the needing to determine his every action himself were all some of the things he had to try and wrap his head around. Normally he had Thailog for that purpose, making sure he knew what he needed to know, and in the Labyrinth there was Delilah supporting him and Talon trying to teach him how to think for himself. Here, he had no one to turn to, unless he decided to find someone to get help from. But did he actually need it? Maybe.
He liked to think that he was able to think and do for himself. He was positive that he could actually. But he didn't know what to do now was the big problem. And thinking for himself didn't help that. So maybe he would try to find someone to help him get used to things. Someone smart like Thailog.
